Originally founded as the
Association for Research in Vietnamese Music in 1989, later renamed the
International Association for Research in Vietnamese Music, the Institute for
Vietnamese Music is dedicated to the preservation of, research into, and
performance and teaching of traditional Vietnamese music, including solo,
chamber, religious, theatrical, and minority types of music extant in Vietnam
today. The Institute facilitates communication among scholars and musicians
interested in Vietnamese music and offers printed material and recordings that
further these goals. Scholars and musicians associated with the Institute offer
concerts, lectures, and other forums that aid in realizing the Institute's
aims.
